Turning it Over

Melissa O’Donnell is an interdisciplinary artist whose work examines the societal impact of powerful systems and institutional marginalisation through her practice research methodologies and artworks produced with a self-devised De:Coding Framework. By combining cognitive strategies with experimental processes, she explores how we perceive and respond to systemic issues and our navigation of contemporary life and powerful systems. Using repurposed materials, coded visuals, and moving image, her practice invites reflection, public awareness and re-engagement with dominant narratives. The practice seeks to find more positive ways to collaborate with new technologies that visualise research data and better serve societal urgencies and needs. Artworks and media include video, drawing, performance and painting installations.
